Buy Note 7 Refurbished

A friend of mine sold her phone on Cashify earlier so she suggested it to me, this time for buying a new phone. To be honest, I was on the fence with this idea of a second-hand phone. But after using the phone for 1-month, I can say it with confidence that refurbished phones are just as good as new ones

Earlier this year, we started seeing reports that Samsung might be planning to re-launch the beloved Galaxy Note 7 in select markets, which Samsung eventually confirmed. It was just a day ago that we saw the official Wi-Fi certification for the device, and now, ETNews claims that the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 will officially be arriving in South Korea at the end of June.

But Note 7 fans outside South Korea will have to wait to get their hands on the new devices. Samsung says it hasn't made a decision yet on selling the Note FE in other countries. The company has said in the past it has no plans to sell refurbished Note 7 devices in the United States.

As Note 7 was launched last year and new technology (the S8/S8+ has what Samsung calls the 'Infinity Display', doesn't have any physical button in the front and the latest processor) has evolved since then, we would expect the refurbished Note 7 to cost Rs 20,000 lesser than its launch price of Rs 60,000.

For me, though, the decision is made: we will go for it even if it costs between Rs 30k-40k, a price to kill for, for the Note 7's specs; anything above Rs 40k would be a sure negative for buying a refurbished phone with the history of Note 7's battery fiasco.

Samsung said little on where and when it would start reselling refurbished phones. "The product details including the name, technical specification and price range will be announced when the device is available," Samsung said in a statement.

The sale of the refurbished Note 7s, "is dependent upon consultations with regulatory authorities and carriers as well as due consideration of local demand. The markets and release dates will be determined accordingly."

Refurbished phones are models that have been returned (or not sold at all, in this case) that have been re-made for sale. On Samsung's website, it describes its refurbished phones as ones that have been "rebuilt, refreshed and covered." The company offers 1 year warranty on its refurbished models, which are offered at lower prices than the brand new ones. A Galaxy S6 Edge phone, which sold for $672 when it was originally offered for sale in 2015, is currently $223.

Last December I spoke to dozens of members in a secret Facebook group who refused to give up their Note 7s and actively worked to circumvent the carrier updates that would brick their devices and ultimately disable them from charging and connecting to mobile networks. Many of the members I spoke to said they'd consider buying a safer, refurbished Note 7.

The refurbished Galaxy Note7 units are expected to come with smaller battery capacity compared to the exploding devices from last year. The best you can hope for is 3,200 mAh, but there's a chance it will be only 3,000 mAh apparently. That's a lot less than the 3,500 mAh cells fitted originally, but we all know how that turned out.

Recently, Samsung confirmed that it had figured out a way to get the Galaxy Note 7 back into the hands of some customers. That plan includes refurbished Galaxy Note 7 devices. The company has announced

In the first instance, the phones will be used as refurbished devices or for rental. For this to happen, the firm says it needs to agree with regulators and mobile phone companies before it announces the locations and potential release dates for the device. WIRED has contacted trading standards in the UK to ask whether the devices going to be re-sold in the UK and we will update this story once a response is received.

The Wi-Fi Alliance has listed several models (present in the image below) and all of them share similar product names starting with SM-N930. Digging a little deeper and we see that next to the model name are different letters signifying which regions these refurbished units could be sold in. With Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ already being sold in the United States, releasing the Note7 over there is going to be a bad business decision.

Samsung will launch the refurbished edition of the Galaxy Note 7 next month, according to Yonhap news agency. The refurbished Galaxy Note 7, named Galaxy Note FE (Fan Edition), will go on sale on July 7 for 700,000 won (or approx Rs 39,661).

The report also states that the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 will apparently have a smaller battery than the original model which was discontinued and later pulled from the market due to fire-prone batteries. The phone, when arrives in the market, runs the latest version of Android.

Samsung is yet to confirm the exact release date of the Galaxy Note FE. In March, Samsung confirmed it would start selling the Galaxy Note 7 in refurbished form. Environmental factors are believed to be one of the reasons that made Samsung to consider releasing the refurbished Galaxy Note 7.

The South Korean tech giant said in March that it plans to sell refurbished Galaxy Note 7s. The production of the device was short-lived last year after some devices caught fire while charging due to battery problems. When and where the models will be released is as of yet unknown.

The company has not yet filed applications for the product to be examined by the two agencies. Experts, however, say the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 must go through much more thorough reviews, even if it may lead to a delay in shipments.

If successfully released, the refurbished Galaxy Note 7 is expected to help Samsung to strengthen its sales in its smartphone business and provide a wider choice for consumers before the presumed Galaxy Note 8 arrives.(END)

Meanwhile, Samsung has launched a program in U.S. online markets to sell refurbished versions of its Galaxy S4, S5, S6, S6 Edge, Note 3 and Note 4 smartphones since last Friday, according to a company official.

"It has not been decided whether sales of refurbished smartphones would be expanded into global markets or whether the Galaxy Note 7 would be included into the mix of refurbished phones," the official said.
